Crossing the Rubicon

Is AMC's Rubicon Too Smart for Its Own Good?

An intriguing slow burn of a show, this marries the bread-and-butter drama of day-to-day office life in an intelligence agency to a murky world of trust-no-one government conspiracies. The critics seem intrigued, but also wonder if the deliberate pace will throw off viewers. I'd think there's enough instant gratification in TV land to go around, but I don't get the appeal of American Idol, so what do I know? After all, this is a medium that somehow supports the weight of approximately 800 cops-and-robbers shows.

Kudos to AMC - they continue to turn out original, interesting series. Hopefully this one can join Breaking Bad and Mad Men in sticking around for the long haul. If not, well, I'm sure CSI: Kansas City will be coming out soon.
